Officers reported they were notified by a individual who found a car in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Officers then found numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.

City officials stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for details.

An important official said the attack made him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
