Comeback Daniil Medvedev Secures First Championship in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces
A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former trainer Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks the player's first championship since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.
Success also signifies he has secured 21 victories at 21 various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, including in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.
Yet the player has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
He came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour victory, took control to push for a final set.
Moutet defended four initial opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, he secured the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
