Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as important members in the powerful family could assist the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the family.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
